One of the best bowl matchups of the year is set for Saturday, December 26, 2020, when the Liberty Flames (9-1) face the #12 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (11-0) in the FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl. Coastal won the Sun Belt – East but were declared co-champions after their conference championship game was called off due to COVID concerns. Liberty is one of three strong Independent schools. Last time out, on November 27th, Liberty ended their regular season with a 45-0 home drubbing of the UMass Minutemen. This game was over before it started, and UMass is probably lucky it was only 45-0. Malik Willis went 16/24 for 223 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions, and added 63 yards on the ground. The Flames ran the ball 44 times for 378 yards, an 8.6 average, and three touchdowns. Defensively, Liberty allowed 227 total yards and forced two UMass turnovers, one interception and one lost fumble.

Coastal Carolina finished off a perfect regular season with a surprisingly tough 42-38 road win over Troy. It looked like Coastal was going to run away with this game, as they led 14-0 very quickly, but Tory kept fighting and took the lead with just 1:20 remiaing in the game. Coastal drove right down the field to score the game winning touchdown with just 35 seconds remaining. Grayson McCall went 24/29 for 338 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, and added an additional touchdown on the ground. CJ Marble rushed the ball 20 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns and hauled in three balls for 47 yards and an additional touchdown.
